“Trucking is a tool that allows us to continue to grow relationships, whether it's customers, shippers, drivers, internal maintenance folks. That's what it's about, making a difference in people's lives.”
– Jeff O’Brien, President of Legacy Express
Jeff O’Brien and Brandon Gerwin started Legacy Express in 2011 while working for a Fortune 500 company. They quickly discovered a shared entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for transportation. Inspired by their personal experiences—Jeff’s father spending long weeks away from home and Brandon’s father working tirelessly as an owner-operator—they set out to build a business where drivers could be home daily, fostering stronger connections with their families.
Starting with just one truck, the company steadily grew, reaching around 20 trucks by 2016. However, life brought unexpected challenges when Brandon was diagnosed with cancer. He tragically passed away in 2018 at the age of 34, leaving Jeff to carry on their shared dream.
As Legacy Express continued to grow, fleet maintenance became a vital part of their operations. To create efficiencies and commonality in their shop, they chose Volvo Trucks and relied on Kriete Truck Centers to guide them as they navigated the industry.
"We were new to the transportation industry. Kriete Truck Centers was right in our backyard, but the biggest thing for us was the relationship with them. They put us in a place where we could succeed."
– Jeff O’Brien, President of Legacy Express
PROVEN PERFORMANCE WITH VOLVO TRUCKS
Legacy’s partnership with Volvo and Kriete has given them the confidence to expand and grow over the years, while staying on the forefront with new products that improve their relationships with customers and employees
"It's simple and refined. Eight and a half miles per gallon - that's a realistic number with the loads we pull. I love driving it. It takes a lot of the work out of being a truck driver."
– Jeff O’Brien, President of Legacy Express
THE FUTURE
Today, Legacy Express continues to honor Brandon’s vision and uphold the company’s founding mission that relationships are at the heart of everything they do. “One thing that we can control is how we treat people,” Jeff says. “And at the end of the day, that’s where we will leave our legacy for as long as we have the ability to do it.”
